Derive Diary 2012
These "Derives'* are my own style of experiments in 'random journeying" ** my concern being with finding a balance to the segmentation of experience that can occur due to the forces of instrumental rationality.(ref blog) I am experimenting with and adapting a simple random selector method***as I learn from experience... My mode of transport is currently a mountain bike. On the 7th derive I found 3 wooden dice**** which I am now using to select direction and distance..

Notes
re 1-10
Although I thought I knew the local area pretty well I am regularly finding connections and throughways that connect areas of the city together i assumed were much father apart, this offers me different practical options for my 'normal' journeys and routes. * Debord G(1956) Theory of the Dérive. Les Lèvres Nues #9 (Paris, November 1956). Reprinted in Internationale Situationniste #2 (Paris, December 1958). Translated by Ken Knabb.
** My method is currently driven by the exploration of the value of random journeying as a means of compensating for the segmentation/dualism that is arguably encouraged by our instrumental culture and ideology.
