Defining the Problem - Lit Review

Opening Statement - stimulates interest and conveys an issue to which the reader? can relate

Specify the problem (issue/dialemma) leaing to the study
Indicate why the problem is important
Discuss literature that addresses problem and set problem in an ongoing dialog in the literature
refer to literature by summarising groups of studies not just single studies
Identify deficiencies you have found in literature (eg areas overlooked by past studies)

Essay not bullet points, fully referenced

Purpose of Literature Review - Critical Logbook

  • Shares with readers results of other studies that closely relate to study being proposed
  • Relates the study to a large ongoing dialog in the literature about a topic filling gaps and extending prior studies
  • Provides a framework for establishing the importance of the study as well as a benchmark fo comparing  the results of a study with other findings
