Quotes

"Dialogue is mutual search for a new reality, not debate to win with stronger arguments. In a dialogue propositions are pointers toward a common new reality; not against each other to win a verbal battle, but complementing each other in an effort to accommodate legitimate goals of all parties, inspired by theories and values, and constructive-creative-concrete enough to become a causa finalis". Galtuung

"I use the concept of affect as away of talking about a margin of manouverability, the 'where we might be able to go' and 'what we might be able to do' in every present situation. I guess 'affect' is a word I use for 'hope': Massumi

"A discourse is a system of words, actions, rules, beliefs, and institutions that share common values. Particular discourses sustain particular worldviews. We might even think of a discourse as a worldview in action. Discourses tend to be invisible--taken for granted as part of the fabric of reality."Fairclough

Emergence is “the principle that entities exhibit properties which are meaningful only when attributed to the whole, not to its parts.” Checkland

"What the designer cares about is whether the user perceives that some action is possible (or in the case of perceived non-affordances, not possible)." Norman

Practical/Reflexive Re Talk Kathleen Essay ?Talk Caroline (?) PHD Art

My approach - clarity start from subject - subjects position and its catagorisation of subjective experience by imposing boundaries to identify systems(concepts, themes, paradigms)and apply them in thought, (this is the basis of language and expertise and hence it is difficult for us to review these c.f practical reasoning v reflexive (Koestler, Giddens ,DeBono)  we have no reliable structure model, since Godel and Barthes Derrida etc however we need to negotiate between individual knowledge structures on the basis of some form of viability (local to actors involved/affected ( empirical? (local perhaps)> norms, phenomenological) so we need a meta model concerned with clarification and inter subjective understanding. I always refer to the possibility that (Checkland (Soft Systems 84) provides one especially if combined with Kelly (57)) Need to add others ( Giddens?)

Kathleen Suggestions:

Pick conceptual tools from Authors eg Giddens Action<>Structure miap
Identify and compare Premises from Paradigms: P,S, PS, PM
Effect on research question and approach
> Conclusion

Dont worry about Specific Authors & Methods Catagorisation
Just review for choice of perspective.. can change

I ask re Quote Valdouche? relation between self as construct and self as essential in the context of  feminism and wholism, (She asks what I mean by wholism ) this surprises me as I assume link between feminism and wholism  I mention  a Def of a level of integration at some level beyond seemingly disparate discourse groups,  and its link to a term she usess earlier in the essay of the "osscillating union of subject object wholes" I am trying to discover if she sees the constructed / essential binasry as absolute ? she seems to answering my question " what is you position on constructed/essential" with  "its pretty obvious my position is essentialist"

Perhaps I asked the wrong question?

Classical Modernist approaches tend to ignore the reflexive due to its complexity and the "practical constraints of the "real world" (market demands). Here lies a cleavage between the academic and practical world which we struggle to bridge wether through efforts at process driven research? and crafts or through meta language? each is suspicious of the other? they cant see where the "Work" is on their own terms?
